People often ask me why I became a therapist, and the answer is quite simple: I've always been drawn to understanding people.
Before training as a CBT therapist, I worked as a Mental Health Nurse in complex secondary mental health services, supporting individuals during some of the most challenging periods of their lives. This role taught me compassion, resilience, and the importance of looking beyond a diagnosis to understand the person and their individual experience.
I later trained as CBT therapist, drawn to an approach that helps people make sense of the patterns keeping them stuck and create meaningful, lasting change. I have since undertaken further training in EMDR, allowing me to work with the impact of difficult and traumatic experiences alongside CBT.
Over time, I've become particularly interest in working with people who are used to coping, achieving and putting others first. But underneath may be struggling with perfectionism, self criticism, people pleasing, anxiety, stress and burnout.
Creating my own private practice has allowed me to offer therapy in the way I value most; taking the time to understand the whole person, working collaboratively and providing evidence based therapy in a space that feels warm, supportive and free from judgement.
No two people are the same, so I don't believe therapy should be either. I'll take the time to understand you as a whole person, not simply a diagnosis or collection of symptoms. Including your experiences, relationships, strengths and what matters most to you.
My work is grounded in evidenced based therapies, including CBT & EMDR. But therapy with me is about more than applying techniques. I aim to create a space where you can feel comfortable, honest, exploring difficult things and working at a pace that feels manageable.
Together, we'll make sense of the patterns that my be keeping you stuck, and find different ways of responding. This might be learning to step back from self critical thoughts, becoming comfortable with setting boundaries, tolerating uncertainty or imperfection or learning that rest doesn't have to be earned.
Ultimately my aim isn't to change who you are. It's to help you understand yourself better and develop greater flexibility and confidence in how you navigate things that feel difficult.
